Frankie, a 9 year old neutered male cat, was brought to Heritage Animal Hospital for a second opinion. This loveable, deaf, white domestic short hair
had at one time weighed 15 lbs. Six weeks prior he weighed 12.5 lbs. and had had a poor appetite. When presented to us he weighed 10 lbs., had a normal temperature, his skin appeared jaundiced
(yellow), and he was very depressed.Frankie's best friend's concerns were also echoed by the staff at Heritage. He was placed on IV fluids and a possible treatment plan was outlined. The next 2 months
would involve an extreme commitment by our staff and his owner if Frankie had a chance at survival.
After an ultrasound guided biopsy our suspicions of Hepatic
Lipidosis (fatty infiltration of the liver) was confirmed. Force feeding was not being successful therefore a feeding tube had to be surgically placed into his esophagus. He was fed through this tube
for nearly six weeks.
Through feeding tubes, IV's, drainage tubes, seizures, and many sleepless nights, Frankie slowly came back to his dedicated owner. She loves having her arrogant cat back again.
