"Elly Mae" Rohloff was presented to Heritage Animal Hospital, Ltd. In April 1998 with abdominal distress of 3 days duration.  She had been a very sociable, overweight, 99 lb., 5 year old, spayed female, yellow lab with a poor hair coat and itchy skin.  After a thorough physical exam, radiographs (X-rays) were taken and an exploratory abdominal surgery was elected.

Exploratory surgery revealed a bone impaction in the stomach near the pylorus, as well as a resulting pancreatitis.  The bones were removed via a gastrotomy incision.  "Elly Mae" was maintained in the hospital on intravenous fluids and antibiotics.

She responded well.   At the time of suture removal further testing was suggested to determine if "Elly's" weight gain and skin condition could be remedied.

Blood work revealed her to be suffering from hypothyroidism and appropriate therapy was instituted.  Today she is a happy energetic 81 lb. lady with shiny hair and beautiful skin.  Her owner is faithfully monitoring her thyroid levels and diet.
